Professor Hao Yin, MD, is Vice President of Shanghai Changzheng Hospital and Director of its Department of Organ Transplantation. He also serves as President of the Asian Pancreas and Islet Transplant Association (APITA), and is the first Chinese scholar elected to the IPITA council.

A leading authority in islet transplantation, Professor Yin led the creation of China’s foremost islet transplant center, currently ranked first in Asia in transplant volume and clinical outcomes. He pioneered the “Changzheng Technical System” for islet isolation and preservation, significantly improving transplant success. His work has shaped national and regional guidelines, now adopted by over 90% of Chinese islet transplant centers.

In research, Professor Yin focuses on refractory diabetes types, including pediatric type 1 diabetes, end-stage renal diabetes, and post-pancreatectomy diabetes. His team developed a novel endodermal stem cell-derived islet technology and led the world’s first clinical study on autologous regenerative islet transplantation, achieving unprecedented insulin independence lasting over 4 years in a T2D patient and over 18 months in a T1D patient.

With over 50 SCI-indexed publications, 30+ funded national projects, 15 Chinese and one international patent, Professor Yin is recognized as a trailblazer in regenerative medicine. His honors include the Tan Jia-Zhen Life Science Innovation Award, Shanghai’s Top Clinical Innovation Award (First Place), and Shanghai Leading Talent. He is the only regenerative medicine expert featured in the Shanghai Science and Technology Achievements Exhibition.
