Dr. Ryotaro Hashizume, MD, PhD, has conducted research in the field of regenerative medicine in both Japan and the United States. Through his work in genetic counseling clinics and pathological diagnostics, he has contributed to the scientific understanding of chromosomal abnormalities and genetic disorders while developing next-generation novel therapeutic approaches. His efforts aim to pave new paths towards solving societal challenges related to these conditions.

 

In recent years, Dr. Hashizume has garnered attention for his groundbreaking research using the CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing technology to eliminate the extra chromosome from cells of individuals with Down syndrome. His findings have been reported by over 70 media outlets worldwide, highlighting the significance of his work. Additionally, he was selected as one of the top 30 shortlisted candidates in the life science category of the international science and innovation award, "Falling Walls Global Call 2025."

 

Through these fundamental research endeavors, Dr. Hashizume hopes to create a future where individuals with Down syndrome can better showcase their individual abilities and lead more fulfilling lives. His work holds the promise of enriching the experiences and overall quality of life for those affected by this genetic condition.
