Dr. Rabindra Bhattacharjee is currently working in Western Universty and London Health Sciences Centre at London, Ontario, Canada. He has completted his Ph.D. under teh supervision of Professor KUmao Toyoshim in Osaka University followed by working in the Laboraory of World's number one Scientist Professor Shizuo Akira in Osaka, Japan. His expertise is molecular biology of innate immune receptors pathways with special application in organ preservation injury, several cancers and overall in proinflammatory diseases. These keywords can better define my field o f study ; drug repositioning in organ preservation, transplant immunity, ischemia reperfusion injury, Toll-like receptor, inflammation and cancer

Description of research activities which will be presented at the CTRMS meeting focuses on the role of innate immune receptor such as Toll-like receptors (TLR) involvement in the pro-inflammatory responses triggered by ischemia reperfusion injury (IRI). IRI continues to be a major concern in transplantation since its occurrence during organ retrieval, subsequent storage in anoxic cold solutions and reestablishment of blood supply post-transplant in the recipient is unavoidable. Our laboratory has successfully developed multiple models of kidney IRI in mouse, porcine and human discard to enable us to design and study modes of intervention to prevent consequent damage. Our research goal is to identify a novel organ preservation method which can protect the organ from damages pre-transplant and promote its optimal function post-transplant. By elucidating the specific immune signaling pathway(s) and repositioning existing drug(s) to prevent IRI-induced inflammation, we target to develop better treatment options for organ preservation to ensure prolonged graft survival in patients with improved quality of life in transplantation.
